I love holidays. Although Halloween has never been my favorite, now that I have kids I can’t help but get on board with all the festivities. Generally speaking, I just love to celebrate, and it’s become the greatest thing watching my sweet boys’ faces light up with excitement as they partake in all the fun!

We got festive early this year, getting our pumpkins out at the very beginning of October, and the boys had so much fun helping me hang our bats around the house. They have pointed them out so many times and I actually have grown to be very fond of them myself. So, it’s a win win. We kept the Halloween festivities going by decorating sugar cookies this past Tuesday with some friends. Let’s be honest, it sounds sweet and pinteresty, but the reality is that it took longer to set up than they actually sat to decorate. And yet, even though it was short, it was so sweet! Sometimes it can be easy to forgo activities because it’s a lot of work to prepare, but even if our kids participate for ten minutes, it’s always worth it in my opinion. These are the things that will create lasting family memories and build traditions for the future.

When I asked Zach if we could do another family costume, he was fully on board. He really is the best dad and husband. He was even a little excited when I told him we were going to take on Tarzan. (Thank goodness we live in California, because his costume was a little lacking, haha!). We had so much fun taking our photos, but I’ll be real with you, it wasn’t as “pretty” as it seems. We definitely needed candy bribery for Mason and had to modify both boys’ costumes due to the lack of cooperation on their part. I love making these memories and I know it’s building a foundation in the boys for our family celebrations to come, but it’s not always easy. Mason is very sensitive to the things he wears so while he had a fabulous full gorilla costume, all I could get him to wear was black pajamas and his gorilla hat (and even that was worn thanks to bribery). Liam did not want to smile whatsoever and both took off running down the sidewalk multiple times. It was hilarious, stressful and sweet all at once.

I tell you this to remind you that every photo you see doesn’t necessarily come easily. We had a blast taking our halloween photos and although they didn’t go exactly according to plan, we had fun and got some cute pics in the end . Holidays are about creating memories as a family and spending time together. That’s why I love them. Sure I love the creative elements to holidays like the costumes, decor or activities, but that’s just the icing on the cake. The most important thing is celebrating our time together as a family.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween! I personally am very excited to go through the boys’ candy tonight and find all the Reese cups
